Without Official Major Sponsor, Pacquiao to Wear Marikina Shoes on Bradley Fight

After giant apparel company Nike canceled Manny Pacquiao’s million-dollar contract a couple of months ago, the Filipino boxer has been struggling to find a new sponsor for his shoes on this upcoming fight with American Timothy Bradley.

Pacquiao made a headline last February when he compared gay people to animals. His comment received criticisms from LGBT community prompting Nike to end partnership with the boxer. The company’s abandonment of Pacquiao resulted to millions of dollars losses in Pacquiao’s end. Since then, no international shoe company is willing to partner with the aging boxer.

Local shoe manufacturer Marikina Shoes on the other hand is willing to save Pacquiao from humiliation. Pacquiao’s assistant earlier said that if no company would offer Pacquiao’s endorsement, the boxer may fight Bradley with barefoot.

Marikina Shoes public relations officer Arturo Daquit said on Friday that one of their members has prepared 5 pairs of extremely light leather shoes for Pacquiao to choose.

Pacquiao is expected to pick his official shoes for Bradley fight on Wednesday, April 6 – the assistant said.

Boxing historian Teddy Atlas and trainer of Bradley said that “this will be the first time that a boxer inside the ring will wear a leather shoes in original color, and it is exciting”.
