You may wonder why Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. could be the next president even he is running for vice president. A series of latest surveys shows that the unlikely pair consistently leads the polls in their respective target positions.
Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Sen. Grace Poe, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is the man to beat as the president.
Marcos Jr. on the other hand has been distancing himself from the previously favorite Sen. Francis Escudero. Fellow candidate and opponent Leni Robredo said, Marcos is the man to beat in vice president level.
Assuming that both Duterte and Marcos win the elections, why can we say that the latter can become the president?
Duterte is known to make promises here and there. A sane person would not believe that he can eliminate drugs and other crimes in six months, improve this and that within “this short time”. In short, Duterte is all but promises.
Once Duterte failed on his promises, the hard-spoken mayor-turned-president will be eaten by his pride and will surely step down from his position as the President of the Philippines. Marcos could take over then.
I am not saying that Duterte will be a total useless, but promising to change the Philippines in his given time is just much to take. Of course he is open to change everything during his whole time as president, but why deliver such impossible promises?
Marcos is the next President of the Philippines after Duterte’s six months to one year of failure.
