Media sources in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon says a presidential bet is seeking the advice of former COMELEC commissioner Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano.
Local radio station DXNB says supporters close to one of the leading presidential bets visited Garcillano’s house three times since February.
“Although Garcillano is no longer employed by the government, especially by the COMELEC, his influence in Mindanao is still strong and his knowledge about manipulating votes can still be used in the coming elections”, the unnamed sources said.
The news did not name the specific presidential candidate, but the source said “he is the one with upper hand on everything”.
The news erupted when the camp of vice presidential bet Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who are in the province to organize his unity caravan, spotted one of high profile aides of the said presidential bet near Garcillano’s house. When Marcos’ top aid asked a local supporter why the said person was there, the latter said “they are visiting the retired COMELEC commissioner”. Marcos aide then learned that the said group has visited Garcillano’s house three times since February 26, March 17, and the latest was March 21 where they were spotted..
Radio report said the move was out of desperation due to poor survey result.
Presidential bet Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte earlier said he is worried that his opponents may use dirty tactics in order to win the presidency, including “dagdag/bawas” scheme.
Virgilio Garcillano was allegedly involved in manipulating votes during the second term of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and was popular with the quote “Hello Garci” by GMA.
