Untapped Natural Gas Explodes in Liguasan Marsh

A week after a natural gas deposit disturbed by Ilonggo workers in Barotac Nuevo town of Iloilo, another undiscovered deposits explode in the middle of plowed rice field in Maguindanao.

Video of the said exploding gas and emitting flames due to very hot weather was posted on Facebook, but details were not included.

A local radio station in Cotabato City confirmed the discovery in their evening news on May 18.

The report said, local farmer was preparing his rice field for planting when bubbles started to come from underground. At first he thought it was spring water, but after few minutes, the discharge become stronger, prompting the farmer to run away as he thought of an erupting volcano.

After an hour, the farmer returned only to get surprise by the flames coming from the exploding natural gas.

Local officials rushed to the site and videotaped the incident.

The report said, officials of Datu Piang town already reported to the provincial risk and disaster office. Datu Pian is a town in Maguindanao, where the natural gas deposits was discovered in the area that was part of Liguasan March on the bank of Mindanao River – the second biggest river in the Philippines, next to Cagayan River of Luzon./Ronnie Cruzat – Cotabato City/
