The Search is Over: Grace Poe’s DNA Matches with Identified Iloilo Aunt’s

The Makati Medical Center has released the DNA test result of the woman from Iloilo City, who earlier identified herself as the aunt of Senator Grace Poe.

Geneticist Dr. Paul Vergara handed the document to the surprised senator yesterday, February 8 inside the Makati Medical Center.

The result says Lorena De Chavez and Grace Poe’s DNA matches by 31.78%.

Lorena de Chavez introduced herself to Poe as her aunt when they met after the senator led a Senate hearing on the Aksyon Radyo incident at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol on Thursday, December 10.

Vergara said the result shows a very strong indication that the two are related, noting that 31% for an aunt is strong enough to consider.

The doctor also added that an average percentage for aunt/uncle, half sibling, and grandparents’ are just 25%.

The senator stunned after Vergara explained the details to her.

Poe’s camp is optimistic that the Supreme Court and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will reconsider her candidacy.

Poe is currently leading in latest surveys, but her name is yet to be decided whether it will be included in the ballot or not.

Poe is expected to file a Motion for Reconsideration within the week before the official campaign period starts.
