Apparently, Thailand’s awarding body is not aware that Vice President Ma. Leonor Robredo won in a questionable election thus; the body is contemplating whether it will hold back Robredo’s award.
On August 1, 2016, Princess Maha Chakri Srinidon, representing her mother Queen Sirikit, conferred the “Honorary Outstanding Woman Award of the Year 2016” to Robredo, during the celebration of Thai Women’s Day at Nonthaburi Province.
It was Robredo’s first official trip abroad as Vice President. The event was led by Thailand’s National Council of Women and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Interior.
A week later after the Supreme Court of the Philippines demanded Robredo to answer Marcos’ petition within 10 days, Thai award organizer Thanung Irasangkol said they were not aware of such case against Robredo.
“I think the mistake was on our side. We rushed the award without sufficient research about the Philippine election results. We are not aware of such case by Vice Pres. Leni Robredo. Our awarding body will deliberate on Tuesday whether we will hold back the award or not,” Irasangkul said as quoted in Bangkok Daily Morning News on Friday.
The Supreme Court (SC) acting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) on Tuesday asked Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo to respond in ten days on the election protest filed by former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and asked the Commission Elections to preserve election returns (ERs) that are subject of protest.
SC spokesman Theodore Te said the high court’s resolution orders the issuance of summons to Robredo requiring her to comment within ten days.
The cancellation of the award will be a big blow to Vice Pres. Robredo if the Thai officials decided to do so. /Nico Bawa/
