The New People’s Army on Wednesday threatens a new that it would bomb more power and communications towers especially in Cotabato is Senator Leila De Lima is not released from her detention cell, a spokesperson from the rebel group, a certain Kumander Saul Ambolong said in a letter sent to a local radio station in Koronadal City.
The rebel group’s threat follows after they bombed the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) Tower #138 of Kibawe-Kabacan 138kV line located in Barangay Kayaga, Kabacan, Cotabato on Wednesday night.
“The company stresses that the bombings only serve to increase the burden of the public, which must suffer through service interruptions when towers are bombed,” the company stated.
This is the first bombing of NGCP towers this year.
Ambolong stressed that De Lima helped the rebel group during the previous administrations when the senator was commissioner of Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
Ambolong also added that the arrest of de Lima is unconstitutional and illegal.
“This year’s bombing of government-owned towers is not about revolutionary tax, but in show of support to some of our comrades who faces government’s exploitation and harassment”< Ambolong said in a letter.
De lima is a human rights activist and believed to support the Communist party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army (CPP-NPA)./Paolo Benedicto/
