Self-confessed alleged hitman Edgar Matobato told international media on Wednesday that his work during his stint on the alleged Davao Death Squad (DDS) was comparable to the work of John Wick, a fictional character in a series of action films portrayed by Canadian actor Keanu Reeves.
Matobato, together with one of his lawyers Oscar Valdez attended a press conference before International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday at The Hague. The alleged hitman has been staying in an undisclosed location in Europe since leaving the Philippines several months ago.
Norwegian journalist Bjorn Borgen asked Matobato how he carried over the killings and how he is getting paid.
Borgen: How do you identify your target and how to you get paid?
Matobato: I work on contract basis. I work like John Wick. I’m paid in cash after my work is done. The amount depends on the level of target.
The crowd applauded Matobato after comparing himself to the tough fictional character.
Matobato did not directly mention President Duterte as the person who give him orders, but said people who are closed to the then Mayor were the ones who gave him orders.
Matobato, retired police officer SPO3 Arthur Lascañas, and other parties critical of Duterte’s war on drugs filed criminal charges over extra judicial killing against the president before ICC.
