A recent online poll conducted by Nielsen Arab in Middle East reveals a still overwhelming support of Overseas Filipino Workers to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
From March 27 to May 9, Nielsen collected 213,765 votes from OFWs around Middle East and Europe. Of the total number of votes, 102,607 (48%) said they believe Duterte can make the Philippines a little richer by 2020, less than three years from now.
On the same survey, 17,101 (8%) believes that they can go home to the Philippines and find appropriate local jobs, while 9,619 (4.5%) said they want to go home and retire happily.
“Kumbaga kung nag-uulam ka ng galunggong ngayon, pwedeng bangus or tambakol ang magiging ulam mo by 2020. Kung meron kang 100 pesos na savings ngayon kada lingo, pwedeng maging 300 pesos by 2020. Hindi ganun kalaking improvement but at least meron”, Ronald Guevarra, and engineer in UAE said.
“With the booming infrastructure projects, I think I can go home and find better jobs. Malapit pa ako sa pamilya ko”, another structural engineer Danny Gil, who has been working in Oman for eight years said.
Duterte won a landslide victory among OFWs in the past elections edging his closest opponent, former DILG Sec. Mar Roxas.
Support for Duterte is particularly strong in Middle East, where he helped hundreds of stranded OFWs in Saudi Arabia return home.
