The Leyte Regional Trial Court has cleared police Superintendent Marvin Marcos over the killing of former Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa. RTC VIII Judge Edgardo Braganza ruled out the case against Marcos due to insufficient evidence.
The 16-page court decision was read by the RTC VIII secretary Atty. Marivic Dugoldugol in front of Marcos and other accused on Friday.
Following the clearing of his name, Marcos was promoted to Chief Superintendent (Brigadier General), and was re-assigned in Camp Crame.
Marcos and other members of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG Region VIII) were charged for killing former Abuera, Leyte Mayor Espinosa.
Marcos, who is now a police general, did not give a single statement to the media.
The lawyer of Espinosa filed an appeal on Saturday.
Seven other accused police officers are still detained at Camp Crame and waiting for court decision.
