Must Read: Duterte Might Face Criminal Charges after His Term if Next President is Not Marcos, Supporters Say

Supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte urge him to be more persuasive in grooming former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos as his successor if he wants to avoid jail time after his six-year term.

Five members of House of Representatives express their fear in an open letter addressed to the Office of the President, that what is happening to LP Senators might happen to the President the moment he steps down after six years.

“No powerful individual or group can defeat the current sitting government. President Duterte will surely face the same fate as what Liberal Party senators, especially Sen. Leila De Lima is experiencing right now. Even they are powerless, they are trying to harm the President. How much more if they retake the power through Vice President Leni Robredo?”, Abra Congressman Saturnino Villanueva wrote.

“The six year term of the President is not enough to change the country. President Duterte must be ready to prepare his successor as early as today if he wants a solid legacy. Only Sen. Bongbong Marcos can fulfill his dreams”, Negros Congressman Alberto Martinez wrote.

With the news that former President Benigno Aquino III might be charged over Mamasapano massacre, the congressmen are thinking in advance what might happen to Duterte when he steps down.

Duterte earlier said Bongbong Marcos is not interested in leading the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), but the lawmakers who support Duterte urge him to convince the Senator, or make other way to put Marcos into spotlight again.

The Presidential Electoral tribunal (PET)_ is currently working on the electoral protest filed by Marcos against VP. Leni Robredo.

“While Duterte and Marcos supporters believe that the latter was cheated, it is really necessary to remove any power from Leni Robredo that may put her into presidency”, Zamboanga Congressman Salvador Beltran said./Andy Britania/
