The unfortunate fate of several farmers on the Kidapawan incident roots from the farmers’ call to pressure the government to extend serious efforts for food and farming assistance while they are amidst drought brought about by El Nino phenomenon. This could have been their chance at acquiring the support they need but it got wrong along the way. Later on, some truths surfaced backing the untold stories of supposedly deceiving acts by leftist groups to advance some presidential candidates.
The officials of the national and provincial government are on the police’s side after the Kidapawan rally. They have defended the police over malicious issues being thrown at them.
Presidential Communication Undersecretary Manuel L. Quezon III ordered through a state radio, for an extensive investigation to dig deeper into the incident. He cited the remarks of North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Mendoza, the participation of leftist groups Bayan Muna, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Anakpawis, Anakbayan and Kabataan Party-list among others.
After the incident, certain evidences on the truth behind the rally have been brought out. One is a Facebook video which details that the farmers were deceived into coming to Kidapawan City to receive rice and cash assistance.
They were allegedly told to receive rice and cash assistance once they reach Kidapawan City. This has enticed the farmers to come as they are in dire need of assistance. However, when they arrived, they were redirected to the national highway and were told to block it by barricading the streets.
The Kidapawan rally is said to have been organized by Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, and other leftist party lists groups associated with CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines). /Jessica Montes/
