International Women’s Group Discredits De Lima’s Award Over Adultery Issues

An international women’s rights group based in continental Asia slams Washington DC for awarding Senator Leila De Lima as among the 100 Foreign Policy Global Thinkers.

Headquartered in Doha, the All Asian Women’s Federation (AAWF) released a statement on Tuesday condemning Washington’s action in recognizing the Philippine lady senator, who admitted that she had an intimate relationship with her former driver-bodyguard.

The AAWF is one of the biggest women’s federation having more than 130 million Asian women members.

In a statement published in a Qatari Newspaper, AAWF spokesperson Ayesha Abdella accused Washington of leading the campaign to insult women, especially faithful wives around the world.

“Washington once again have shown its hypocrisy by rewarding a person who committed adultery in her own country. In Muslim world, Mrs. Leila De Lima should have been executed. In Christian world where democracy is fully practiced, Mrs. De Lima should have gone into jail for committing an unforgivable crime”, Abdella said.

“Since she is a political figure, her insult to the wife of her former driver-bodyguard means an insult to all faithful wives around the world”, Abdella added.

“We not only denounce the legitimacy of the said award, we will also do our best in our power to educate our members and other women not to follow what Mrs. De lima has done”, the spokesperson said.
