Major Filipino-American organizations and several other groups across the United States of America, vowed not to vote the “Ignorant Donald Trump” on the coming December Presidential Elections in US, after the latter called the Philippines a “terrorist country”.
Aside from Fil-Ams living in US, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar has decried a recent statement by US presidential candidate Donald Trump lumping the Philippines together with other states harboring terrorists, and calling for an immigration ban on these countries.
Andanar’s statement read: Considering his major real estate ‘brand’ investment in the Philippines’ financial capital called Trump Tower, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump unfortunately mentioned the Philippines in an anti-immigration speech in a political rally in Portland, Maine.
The US census as of 2014 estimated that there are more than 4 million Filipino-Americans living in US, and around 3.4 million have the right to vote.
On Friday, Fil-Am organization leader Marvin Scott said on San Francisco Bay Area that his group of more than 50,000 Fil-Ams will do anything to make Trump a laughing stock in the coming presidential elections.
“We will have our own fundraising across the United States of America and we will use these funds to campaign against Mr. Trump. We will ask fellow Fil-Ams and other ethnic groups not to vote for Trump because our lives will be in danger if he wins”, Scott said.
Earlier around May, the media compared the then incoming President Rodrigo Duterte to Donald Trump, but the comparison was largely rejected by Fil-Ams saying Trump is ignorant fool, while Pres. Duterte is an intelligent person.
Trump’s rant against the Philippines also angered two senators from Hawaii and Guam – both of Filipino descent.
