The House Committee on Justice headed by Mindoro Rep. Atty. Reynaldo Umali, has rejected the impeachment complaint of fellow lawmaker, Magdalo Rep. Garry Alejao, against President Rodrigo Duterte. The complaint did not pass the first reading and was unanimously voted “lack of substantial evidence”.
Alejano, who is not a member of the House Committee on justice, and was not present during the hearing, accused fellow congressmen of “conspiring against him.”
Alejano’s original complaint will not be honored anymore, but the committee cited that the congressman can still submit new impeachment complaint different from what the committee has rejected.
Alejano, with the support of fellow mutineer senator Antonio Trillanes IV, vowed to bring down Duterte through impeachment proceedings.
Atty. Concha Gaspar, secretary of the committee said, that Alejano can still file other complaints after one month since the original complaint was rejected.
Alejano is the first and only person to file an impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.
Vice President Leni Robredo, on the other hand will face a different set of impeachment complaints that will be filed by group of lawyers and professors on may, as reported earlier.
Robredo was widely criticized over her controversial UN speech video. /Rea Calida/
