A former lawmaker and ex-Land Transportation Office (LTO) executive on Monday revealed that Liberal Party raked billions of pesos from non-existing LTO plates and stickers.
In an interview with DYXB-Bacolod, the congressman, who is a former LP ally said, funds from LTO were funneled to Liberal Party for more than one year from September 20014 until November 2015. The agency did not issue a single plate sticker on 2015.
The former lawmaker said from the cost of sticker alone, the agency made 781 million on 2015, of which 562 million were given to the party.
“Liberal Party has funneled around 3.2 billion of Yolanda funds to the party’s treasury. The fund was part of the money pledged by the Australian government,” former Congressman Genaro Aguirre said.
Meanwhile, incoming president Rodrigo Duterte on Monday warned that he is going to abolish the government’s most corrupt agencies. He named Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Bureau of Customs (BOC), and Land Transportation Office (LTO) as the most corrupt agencies.
Vehicle owners have been complaining for almost two years of not having stickers and new license plates despite paying during renewal of vehicle’s registration. The outgoing Aquino government failed to act and is always criticized by its incompetence to deal with the said LTO problem. /May Sapanta – Bacolod City/
