CCAP Assures Philippines Won’t Lose Call Center Jobs

The Call Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) on Friday said call center and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) workers should not worry about President Duterte’s statements over breaking ties with US.

CCAP Executive Director Leticia Jimenez Ferrer said even American BPO companies in the country are not affected by Duterte’s threat to cut economic and military ties with US.

Look, there are hundreds of American companies in China. America’s foreign debt in China costs trillions of US dollars and yet the two countries are still doing business together. The reason why American companies relocated to the Philippines is because of our English skills coupled with affordable workforce. BPO employees should not worry as the Americans would lose ten folds if they are going to relocate somewhere else.”, Ferrer said.

Rumors started to circulate online after Senator Ping Lacson warned of the Philippines losing BPO jobs if Duterte continue his anti-American rhetoric.

Ferrer downplayed Lacson’s comment saying “it’s just insensible and unnecessary comment that causes fear to our employees”.

On the other hand, the country’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry said Saturday it was seeking an audience with President Rodrigo Duterte to discuss their concerns as he increasingly distances the country from the United States.

Duterte said he would work for a “separation” of the country’s foreign policy from Washington, its long time ally, as he seeks closer ties with China, the US’ rival in the Pacific.

The IT-BPO Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) “formally reached out to the Office of the President to secure an audience with him and directly discuss our industry’s asks from government,” the group said in a statement./Leni Sarmiento/facebook-share
