Update 10/31, 4:00PM: Schweighart relinquished her crown following her controversial video.
Imelda Schweighart relinquished her crown as Miss Philippines Earth on Monday, following her controversial statements and lackluster performance as the country’s representative in the pageant.
Organizers of Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth accepted her voluntary resignation at 5:52 p.m. Monday.
Miss Philippines Earth first runner-up Kiara Giel Gregorio will fulfill all of Schweighart’s remaining obligations. Gregorio is a pre-law student who participated in the tilt as a representative of the Filipino community in London.
The decision came after Schweighart and her mother Annabeth Bautista met with Lorraine Schuck, executive vice president of Carousel Productions, which runs the pageant.
Bautista was reportedly alarmed from the bashing that her daughter had been receiving on social media.
Schweighart failed to qualify in the top 16 of Miss Earth 2016, which was won by Miss Ecuador Katherine Espín.
After the pageant, a video of Schweighart bashing the newly crowned Espin circulated online.
Earlier today: After her name was not included in the remaining 16 candidates during the culmination of Miss Earth, half German Philippine candidate Imelda Schweighart brought her bitterness in front of her fans bashing on video telling her supporters that everything about winning candidate Katherine Espin of Ecuador — from her nose to her chin to her private parts — were allegedly “fake.”
Imelda Bautista Schweighart, who is competed for the Miss Earth 2016 crown, caused outrage in the Philippines earlier by denouncing ‘The Punisher’s’ war on drugs.
‘Oh my God, our president is doing Hitler stuff here in the Philippines,’ the 21-year-old student said in a Facebook Live video chat.
Now, it seems the Netizens had enough of her, calling the pageant committee to remove her crown and send her out of the country.
The video was posted Sunday by the YouTube channel ChikAmazing Official and immediately drew strong reactions from netizens who were disgusted with Schweighart’s attitude, reports say.
As such, several social media users expressed the same sentiments to include pageant blogger and Miss Universe Philippines 1985 Joyce Ann Burton who was extremely outraged over Schweighart’s remarks and promptly posted an apology to Miss Ecuador on her own Facebook page.
“I’m so sorry for the bad behavior of our representative. I just saw the video where she was mocking you. I was so embarrassed. Filipina beauty queens are NOT like that. Even our more out-spoken queens are never that bastos. I am so appalled that I hope your pageant organization investigates the matter. And I hope that in spite of her inhospitable drama you would still feel welcome here. Much love to you and congratulations for your win!!!,” Burton posted.
De La Salle Prof. Jorge Cabigo said during the radio interview on Monday said, Schweighart’s attitude was unbecoming of a beauty pageant who represent her country.
“Schweighart could lose her crown if more and more people file petitions over the pageant committee. I may not be personally filing a petition, but I will support those people who will do so”, Cabigo said.
“The Philippines, for the first time, sent an arrogant and extremely rude contestant in front of the whole world”, Cabigo added.
