The organizers of “Gawad sa Puso ni Jim” found themselves in difficult position after more than 2,900 concert goers asked for refund on Friday.
Gawad sa Puso ni Jim was a solo concert by singer-activist Jim Paredes, who recently became controversial after a clash of Duterte youth during the EDSA rally. The concert was held on Friday, March 10, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Head organizer Nikki Valderrama said, that out of 3,800 tickets sold from January 13, to February 10, 2017, more than half requested a refund after the controversial video of Jim Paredes berating Duterte supporters went viral.
“We planned to suspend the concert, but we will be experiencing big loss if we opt to do so, so we proceed. We never imagined this would happen”, Valderrama told reporters on Friday.
Valderrama said that the concert was planned as early as November 2016, and tickets were sold out last February. Less than half attended the concert.
The proceeds from the concert was supposed to help Yolanda victims, but Valderrama said the organizers incurred only losses.
Valderrama said nothing about Paredes’ incident with Duterte supporters, but hinted that the problem might have been avoided if the singer did not involve himself on the street protest. /Sandro Doromal/Disclaimer: Contributed articles does not reflect the view of Okd2.com.
