Local residents near the alleged 350-hectare Binay Farm in Brgy. Maligaya, Rosario, in the province of Batangas are worried that their parcel of lands will be affected when the farm is sold to big property developers, local resident Tony Carandang said.
Carandang noted that they don’t want any subdivision built around the highly agricultural area.
In a report of Brigada News FM on Monday, Mr. Carandang, a local cooperative president said that the property is for sale and a number of “big profile” developers are already eying for the estate.
“I saw a pick-up truck with Megaworld written on it, and other SUVs with the same logo”, Carandang said.
Both Sta. Lucia and Ayala Land according to him had visited the area last month, and they believe the negotiation with any of these firms is already in process.
“Our Brgy. Captain said that the owners of the farm are looking for at least P3.5B. That is good for 1,000 per square meter, not including the buildings which cost another 120 million”, Carandang added.
The controversial farm has a piggery, a flower orchard and a cock farm is currently owned by a corporation whose shareholders are reportedly dummies of Vice President Jejomar Binay, according to former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado almost 2 years ago.
When asked if he has any idea why the farm is for sale, Carandang said “siguro kelangan nila ng pera sa election” (Perhaps they needed money for the elections).
Rosario is a first class municipality in Batangas with one of the largest land areas inside Batangas province. A 350-hectare first class subdivision will drag Rosario into a City according to Carandang, but they don’t want their agricultural land to be affected by modernization.
