Barred Since 2008: Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano Stopped at Indian Airport

Magdalo Party List Representative and former mutineer Gary Alejano was reportedly stopped by DEL airport authorities around 8:30PM Wednesday (New Delhi time).

According to Hindu Times, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IATA:DEL) authorities received a tip from Air India officials, that the Air India flight J4213 from Hong Kong  is carrying a passenger  who is not clear to land on Indian soil.

Not informed of his identity, Rep. Gary Alejano together with his two companions were escorted to airport security headquarters and asked several questions.

Hindu Times said the “person of interest” was polite with Indian authorities, and was not carrying a diplomatic passport.

It was later revealed that the airport’s list of banned people was not updated since 2008 due to frequent replacement of contractors and faulty systems.

Alejano, together with other Magdalo mutineers were banned to travel abroad from 2003 to 2008.

The paper said Alejano and his colleagues were released at around 1:00AM (Indian time), after airport authorities received confirmation from Philippine officials.

The paper added that the holding of the Philippine Congressman was blessing in disguise to airport’s records, thus, authorities were forced to update the system.

Although India admitted that it was shameful mistake on this part, authorities also partly blame the Philippine government for not giving them updates about the status of people who are barred from entering India.
