Controversial United Nations special rapporteur on extra judicial killing, Agnes Callamard, had reportedly spent 18 months in drug rehabilitation center during her teens, a local French newspaper reported on Friday.
On its column, French local newspaper Le Marsellie said that Callamard was sent by her parents to a drug rehabilitation center in Le Mans because she was allegedly addicted to cannabis (another name for marijuana).
“Sixteen year-old Agnes Callamard was highly addicted to cannabis, prompting her parents, especially her father to seek professional help. She was admitted to a drug rehab in Le Mans, and for eighteen months, she lived alone far away from her family”, the report said.
The report also said that the success of Callamard’s rehabilitation prompt her to become an advocate of anti-extra judicial killings, especially on drug victims.
Although cannabis is prohibited in most countries including the Philippines, its effect is not comparable to methamphetamine (shabu), a substance that is widely abused in the country.
Callamard became widely unpopular in the Philippines after she criticized President Duterte’s war on drugs that killed thousands of drug addicts and pushers. /Tia Bello/Note: Disclaimer: Contributed articles does not reflect the view of Okd2.com.
